Community Council - New Web Site On The Way
A new Ballintotis Area Community Council web site will be officially launched within the next few weeks. The new web site will bring regular updates on events and happenings in our locality and obviously will be the hub of contact in advance of the 4 Mile Road Race. Once again on-line entries will be linked through the Ballintotis site from early March. Top marks to local man Sean Cooney for designing and devising the format for the news site. At last Thursday's AGM of the Council , Sean gave a brief preview to members and confirmed that the site will become live within the next weeks.
A huge word of thanks must be extended to Denis Barry who devised and updated the previous site up until last year. Denis had posted a massive amount of material including many detailed photo albums and the good news is that all will be retained through an instant link from the new site.
Clean Up Day
At last week's meeting a number of members expressed their dismay at the continuous dropping off of litter and rubbish in our local area, With that in mind it was decided to organise a "Clean Up" Afternoon on Saturday February 11th where local residents are asked to come out and give a small portion of their time from 2.30pm onwards. The meeting point will be the Church Car Park - however the fastest course of action is probably is for people to cover their own local roads on the day.
Elsewhere, the meeting heard a address from Chairman Kevin Cronin who expressed his desire for greater communication with all residents in the Community Council area. Kevin said that he hoped the new web site along with an accompanying facebook page would instantly increase the channels of communication. He also thanked all those who helped and supported the various events during 2016, including the Road Race, the Festive Fayre and the fund raising Table Quiz.
The Chairman along with Secretary Tom O.Brien, Treasurer Michael Ryan and PRO Tim Troy remain in their positions for the coming year.
Once again a call was made for some new faces to join the Community Alert Committee for the coming year. Any volunteers from the Ballintotis Community Council Area please - call 086-8778182.
Community Games Revived
Away from the AGM - good news in recent days came in relation to Community Games - as the local group has been revived in the area thanks to the work of a number of interested people. Marian Harrington is the new Chairperson with Laoise O'Riordan as Secretary, Noreen Cashman as Treasurer and Aoife O'Sullivan as Assistant Treasurer. The local group with begin activities with Art in the near future and it is promised that more events will follow afterwards.
Our best wishes go to the many members of the Ballintotis Fit4Life Club who are taking part n next Sunday's John Treacy 10 Mile Road Race in Dungarvan. The event is one of the undoubted high points of the early season and ranks only second to the famous Ballycotton 10 in stature. The majority of the locals will travel in what it is full bus.
The first meeting of the Ballintotis Race Committee, ahead of this year's fixture on April 20th, will take place on Monday next February 6th at 8.30pm in the Community Centre. Anybody interested in helping out is very welcome to attend.
A Touch of Vietnam in Ballintotis
To celebrate Vietnam, brothers Euan and Jamie Cashman brought a touch of Asia to East Cork when performing a Traditional Lion Dance for their fellow pupils at Ballintotis National School last Friday. The event was held in the Community Centre in front of a delighted captive audience. Well done guys!
Ballintotis hurling fanatics Euan Cashman and Cathal Murphy were delighted to give Cork captain Stephen McDonnell a helping hand with silverware after the Leesiders defeated Limerick to win the Co Op Superstores Munster Senior League Final in Pairc Na Gael on Sunday last.
