Busy Sunday Traffic
A busy Sunday traffic-wise is expected in our area this weekend as the 111th Midleton Agricultural Show is based in the locality.
Events commence at 10am and one can expect plenty of activity from early morning on the approach roads. The entrance to the Show Field is at Kilmountain Cross, thus heavy traffic can be expected on the road on the Churchtown North to Mogeely Road in particular, although all other link roads are also expected to be busy.
"The Show"is always is a big social occasion in the East Cork area, whilst many people also travel from various parts of the province to compete in a variety of events. The hard working committee are this week laying out the field structure to cater for the numerous activities, many of which have their own specific arenas.
Weather conditions look promising, thus likely to increase the attendance. So go long and support the venture which of course for many years was held in the grounds of Cork Marts, but over the last few decades has been hosted at a variety of venues. We wish the organisers all the best as they make a return visit to the Ballintotis area.
Kevin Wins In Ardmore
Well done to Kevin O'Leary from Stumphill who produced a mighty performance to win last Friday's Ardmore 5 Mile Road Race. Kevin has been in flying form this year, having been placed in a number of races, but he produced a fantastic run to take the honours in a time of 26:59 (pace per mile = 5;23). This left him 40 seconds clear of runner up Anthony Flynn from West Waterford. With a long season ahead there is no doubt Kevin will again shine in the months ahead on the local road racing scene.
A very big Ballintotis contingent from the Fit4Life Club took part in the Kilcredan 5K which also took place on Friday evening last. There were several runners who recorded eye catching times, some even chalking up personal best times. Ailsing O Brien, Louise Casey, Noel Horgan, Kieran O'Sullivan, Valerie Twomey Cyril Garde, Mick Holland, Anthony Hayes, Neil Moynihan were amongst a host of local Club runners to enjoy impressive runs at the venue.
Amongst the local category prize winners, pride of place must go to the husband and wife duo Sylvie and Mary O Mahony, who recorded another double success.
This week's big race is the Ballandreen 5 Miler, which marks the start of the a famous Ballycotton Summer Series. Action begins at 8pm. Please arrive early at the venue.
Lots happening in Ballintotis National School in the run in to the summer holidays which are starting to appear on the horizon. This time of year always brings a healthy diet of local activities and of course the usual school tours to various locations.
