Ballintotis Bulletin 19/6/17

Clean Up On Monday Next

Before the summer holidays click into gear, Ballintotis Area Community Council have arranged a Summer "Clean Up" on Monday next June 26th. Assembly point is at Ballintotis Church Car Park between 7pm and 7.15pm. We appeal to as many local residents as possible to come along and help out with this venture. The slogan "pride in our community" has been much used in many parts of the county and country and this is one way of showing what we stand for here in Ballintotis. Unfortunately the problem of litter highlighted by some people even dumping bags of rubbish has again been seen in recent months. Thankfully some very vigilant and alert locals have been on the case keeping on a close eye on proceedings.

It's up to all of us to play our part and not to allow others ruin our beautiful countryside around Ballintotis. Please don't leave the task of the clean up to your neighbours - come along on next Monday and play your part in ensuring the Ballintotis looks it's brilliant best for the the summer months ahead.

Web Site

The new Ballintotis Area Community Council web site will continue to develop it's content over the months ahead with more features being added on an ongoing basis. The Council will also be looking to mail information and news directly via e mail to local residents and will invite people to sign up via the web site. This is just one area which hopefully develop in early autumn.

Autumn Activities - We Need New Faces

Also in the pipeline is a launch night for the new web site in the Community Centre and this may be combined with the launch of a number of new events and activities. The Tuesday Club and Fit4Life Club are just two examples of local groups that have been established and have proved hugely popular.

Now it's time to get the ball rolling with some more activities and we are looking for people who would like to come along and get involved in some new ventures.

Music and Drama

We have a wealth of talented singers, musicians and even actors in the locality - so why not get the show on the road with a Ballintotis Music and Drama Group?. The Community Centre is the ideal base and by forming a new group in September - surely a Christmas production would be a realistic target.

Flower & Garden Club

Secondly - how about the Ballintotis Flower and Garden Club - again we have many people in the area with a great interest in gardening. Monthly meetings and guest demonstrations at the Community Centre along with trips to various gardens are within the bounds of reality.

Foroige Club

The rebirth of the Foroige Club is needed to cater for the younger generation. Foroige gives great support to the local leaders, all is required are a few people to take up the mantle of responsibility. again we have the Community Centre as an ideal base.

Finally, the Community Centre also has a handball wall and lined court. Do we have a few people that can give an hour or two a week to reform this group?

Food for thought during the summer months - but let;'s aim to get all these groups up and running by the end of September. Notice is here given that a meeting for all interested parties will take place in the Community Centre. Please spread the word about these new ventures. In the meantime, give a call to John on 086-8778182 if you are interested in becoming involved in assisting in any of the above. All it needs is a few people to get the ball rolling and surely we can have the Community Centre buzzing for the autumn and winter months.

Road Race Success

Well done to Eilish Downing of Ballintotis Fit4Life who produced a superb run to come home as third placed lady in the East Ferry 5 Mile Road Race recently. On the same night Cyril Garde had a cracking run when posting a personal best time for the distance and finishing in 15th place overall.

Last week locals Sylvie and Mary O'Mahony had again reason to celebrate as they both were amongst the category prize winners in the well supported Coolagown 5K Road Race. This week all the attention is on the Shanagarry 5 Mile Road Race, the second leg of the Ballycotton Summer Road Race Series. This Thursday's race is timed for 8pm with entry desks located at Russell Rovers GAA Club. Next week, the popular Mount Uniacke 5K takes place on Wednesday evening also at 8pm.
