Ballintotis Bulettin

Walking Club

Great to see the new Ballintotis Walking Club hitting the road on Saturday last as a sizeable group headed for Saleen to begin the first walk of the new Springtime schedule. The group will reconvene on Saturday week March 10th and the venue will be Broomfield in Midleton. All members and intending newcomers are asked to assemble in Ballintotis at 2pm before travelling by car to Broomfield.

Then on Saturday April 7th it's short trip to Castlemartyr Wood and then the group will take part in the Ballintotis Walk in advance of the 4 Mile Road Race on Thursday night April 19th.

Ballintotis Fit4Life Club held their Annual General Meeting at the Community Centre on Wednesday evening last week where a number of new officers were elected. Sean Leahy retains the post as Chairman but he will be joined at the top table by new Vice Chairman Sean Hennesssy and fellow new officers Colin Lochaden and Linda Kelleher Carew.

As always the club have plenty to look forward to in the coming months including a small celebration to mark their fifth birthday. It is also hoped that the club will enter teams in the County Road Championships which take place in Castlelyons on Monday March 19th. Meantime indoor training continues in Ballintotis on Tuesdays and outdoors in Castlemarty each Thursday.

Road Race Preparations

It's now just seven weeks to this year's Ballintotis Road Race and the committee are delighted to welcome new members on the race orgainising committee in the shape of Shane Carroll, Kieran O'Sullivan and Darragh Cashman.

A lot of work needs to be done over the coming weeks in the eciting countdown to what will be the ninth running of the race in Ballintotis. On line registration opens on Monday March 12th and will remain open until Monday April 16th.

The organisers would ask as many people as possible to register in advance. By doing so, you will make life easier for both the committee and for yourself on the day of the race. Please log on to www.ballintotis.com and follow the link to enter. Race numbers can be collected between 5pm and 7pm on Wednesday April 18th and again on Race Day from 1pm at Ballintotis Community Centre.

Aain a general appeal is sent out to the wider community for help on the night. Maybe you can help in providing/sandwiches etc – if so contact Jean O’Gorman on 086-3319101. If you can assist in stewarding matters please give a call to John on 086-8778182.

This year’s race has the traditional starting time of 8pm with the non competitive walk, beginning at 6.30pm. Entry for the walk will be taken from 5.30pm on Thursday evening. There is no pre entry for the walk.

As always the entire occasion promises to be a great social and sporting spectacle in our local community, so if you are not running please consider helping out in some capacity.

New Sponsors Ahern's Centra

The race committee are delighted to welcome Ahern's Centra on board as one the main sponsors of the event. Simon Ahern of Ahern's Centra Castlemarty, Killeagh and Carrigtwohill will take over sponsorship of the by now coveted Ballintotis Running Buff, which lbe given to each participant on the night. We extend a sincere word of thanks to Simon and his team for his very valued backing of the event.

Top Prizes On Offer

The race offers great value for money with a very attractive prize structure overall and a full list of category prizes as well as the opportunity to win one of the many spot prizes on offer. Castlemartyr Resort will again sponsor the top prize which this year is a Weekend Away for 2 people for both the male and female winners. Trabolgan Holiday Village have again confirmed that they will sponsor a Family Weekend Away or Mid Week stay for the both the race runner up and ladies runner up.

Once more Garryvoe Hotel Leisure Centre have come on board with a magnifcinet prize for the third runners home in the shape of six months membership to their superb facility. Market Green Shopping Centre and Ballintotis Fit4Life Club have also been confirmed as amongst the other principal race sponsors.

Move Breathe Relax Classes

These classes began again at the Community Centre on Sunday evening last and will continue once a month on Sundays on the following dates - March 18th, April 8th, May 20th and June 10th.

Time: 8pm-9.15pm

Tuesday Club

The next meeting will be on March 13th and this will start at the earlier time of 11.00am with Marie Hamm of Fitwalk - instructing a different type of sit down exercises which all members enjoyed last year. A light lunch will be served in the Community Centre afterwards.


Then on March 27th in association with Muinter na Tire - The Fair Deal Nursing Home Support Scheme will explained by HSE guest speaker, followed by Refreshments, Music, Song and dancing with John White.

No charge, so come and enjoy free information, entertainment and good food.
