Ballintotis Fit4Life Club News
Wll done to Ballintotis Fit4Life Club members Shane Carroll, Paul O'Connell, Colin Lochaden and Ger Broderick who represented the club with great distinction in last Monday's Cork County Road Championships in Castlelyons. It was the first time ever that a Ballintotis Club team competed in a Championsup event and they certainly did their club proud. Shane was first home with a superb time of 25:37 for the 4 Mile distance and was cloasely followed by Paul whilst Colin and Ger also had great debut runs. Here's to more of the same guys and maybe the forthcoming East Cork Road Championships which take place in Ballynoe at the end of next month.
Some club members wil be action again on this coming Sunday as the rescheduled Cloyne 4K begins at 9.30am whilst the Mallow 10 Miler is also on the agenda. Meantime, the Couch to 4 Mile group continue to make great progress as they look forward to the Ballintotis 4 Miler on April 19th and the Emer Casey 5K in Youghal on the previous Thursday.

Dominic Knowles R.I.P
It is indeed with a very heavy heart that the Road Race Committee reconvened on Tuesday of this week, following the sudden death of our colleague and great friend, Dominic Knowles. The air of sadness which engulfed the community on hearing of Dom's death is still very much in evidence.
Our deepest sympathy is again extended to his wife Noreen, mother Josie, brother Ivor and all other family members.
Dom was very much the heart and soul of the Ballintotis Race Committee. He took a great sense of pride in everything that he did in this vibrant community, as he did in every other organisation or group of which he was involved. He was a Ballintotis man true and true - it was home for him and everything to do with Ballintotis had a very special place in his heart. Dom was a worker in every organisation he was part of and often wondered why at times some people did not quite share the same passion as he did, because Dom quite simply always gave one hundred per cent to the cause - Whether as the driving force behind the Soccer Club, as chief organiser of the Annual Table Quiz, as deputy Church Sacristan, as a member of the Community Council or as stated as a central figure in the Ballintotis Road Race committee.
Those of us who shared committee tables with him knew that if there was a job to the done, Dom would not shy away. In recent years his enthusiasm for the Road Race was infectious - he just loved the build up, the race day and the follow up so much, that annual holidays were in the book once the race date was known. Then there was Cork hurling - another red letter day in his diary were those "Championship and League Sundays", where Dom was an ever present, the ultimate Cork hurling fan cheering on his beloved Rebels from Croke Park to Semple Stadium.
The huge crowds that descended on Ballintotis to offer their sympathy to Dom's family reflected the status in which he was held in amongst his friends, acquaintances and work colleagues.
Dominic Knowles was and always will be a local legend, a great family man, a great friend and a great Ballintotis man.
We know is now looking down on us, still keeping an eye on the those he loves so well. You will always be in our thoughts too.
- Rest In Peace Dom! - JC
